The Hawaii Admirer

July 16 at 9:38 PM ·

I've visited the Island of Hawaii countless times but one of my favourite days was when we hired a Big Island Buggy in Kona and headed south to Puuhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park (and back). Our day unfolded into an eat-and-drink-a-thon! Fresh green coconut juice at Kona markets, ahi poke bowls from Umeke’s, 100% Kona coffee at the Coffee Shack with wow-views over the coastline, delish Pork Lau Lau from Super J’s Hawaiian foods, choc-covered Donkey Balls (mac nuts), and Kona beer at Chillin By The Bay. In between indulging we explored the sacred grounds of Puuhonua, a place representative of ancient Hawaiian civilisation. It features an inside look at heiau (temples), hale (thatched structures), kii (wooden statues) and fishponds. Honu (green sea turtles) stopped by to say hi, bobbing their heads above the shallow water 🐢
